Staff Physician Primary Care (Family Practice or Internal Medicine)
Location: Haak u Health Center Acoma, NM
Assignment: 13-week contract with opportunity for full-time employment
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Pay: $160 per hour
Start Date: Monday, January 5
This position provides direct patient care services including diagnosis, treatment of diseases, preventative healthcare, and injury management. Duties include conducting history and physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing treatments, and providing comprehensive primary care for patients from infants to elders. May refer patients to specialists for further diagnostics or treatment.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesDiagnose, treat, maintain therapy, and provide rehabilitation within a primary care setting.
Provide high-quality, evidence-based comprehensive care for individuals and families.
Conduct patient interviews, examinations, history reviews, diagnostic testing, and follow-up.
Make preliminary diagnoses, direct treatment, prescribe medications, and coordinate referrals.
Provide preventative health maintenance and early diagnosis.
Review medications, therapy course, patient observations, and modify regimens as needed.
Document timely and accurately in the electronic health record.
Prepare medical records, dictate clinical summaries, and maintain complete patient documentation.
Work closely with other health professionals to manage medical, psychological, and social issues.
Perform administrative duties as assigned; supervise any assigned medical students, interns, or residents.
Refer patients to contracted medical facilities when needed and coordinate follow-up.
Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) processes.
May work assigned rotation, callback, evenings, holidays, and weekends to ensure continuity of care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience:
No additional experience required outside of completion of training programs listed below.
Education:
Completion of an accredited Medical School Program.
Completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Board Eligible or Board Certified (ABFM or ABIM).
Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S. State or Territory.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, policies, procedures, and priorities.
Ability to use analytical methods, customer service principles, and interpersonal communication.
Ability to organize, prioritize, track, and complete multiple tasks or issues.
Ability to reconcile benefit issues through different sources/agencies.
Must have satisfactory performance history with positive employment references.
Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
Familiarity with mandatory reporting requirements under the Indian Child Protection Act.
Bilingual in English and Keres.
Prior experience with Indian Health Services (IHS), tribal organizations, or similar settings.
Native American Preference applies.
Work performed in office or outdoor environments with moderate noise and potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens or chemicals.
May require evening/weekend work, extended hours, or irregular shifts.
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, talking, and hearing.
Occasional lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.
Requires reading, distance, computer, color vision, and communication with patients, staff, and vendors.
Work requires meeting multiple deadlines and interacting with a wide variety of individuals on complex issues.
