Comp: $185K - $275K/year based on experience; bonus potential
Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented International Trade Compliance Associate Attorney to join our prestigious law firm's International Trade Compliance (ITC) practice. The position is available in our Washington, DC or New Haven, CT offices. The ideal candidate will have 2-6 years of experience in trade compliance, with a deep understanding of the regulatory frameworks that govern international trade.
Key Responsibilities
As an International Trade Compliance Associate Attorney, you will be responsible for:
Regulatory Compliance:
- Advising clients on compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Foreign Assets Control (sanctions) regulations, and Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS) regulations.
- Conducting comprehensive compliance audits to ensure adherence to relevant trade laws and regulations.
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Developing and implementing robust compliance policies and procedures tailored to meet client needs.
- Providing training and guidance to clients on best practices in trade compliance.
Investigations and Disclosures:
- Leading internal investigations into potential trade compliance violations.
- Drafting voluntary disclosures to regulatory agencies and managing the disclosure process from initiation to resolution.
Client Advisory:
- Offering strategic advice to clients on complex trade compliance issues.
- Assisting clients in navigating the regulatory landscape to minimize risks and capitalize on opportunities in international markets.
Government Interaction:
- Representing clients in interactions with government agencies, including the Department of State, Department of Commerce, and Department of the Treasury.
- Liaising with government authorities during audits, investigations, and voluntary disclosure submissions.
In-House and Government Experience:
- Applying insights from prior in-house or government roles (if applicable) to enhance client service and compliance strategies.
- Utilizing industry and regulatory knowledge to provide informed and pragmatic solutions to clients.
Qualifications
- 2-6 years of relevant experience in international trade compliance.
- Expertise in ITAR, EAR, sanctions regulations, and CFIUS regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in investigating and drafting voluntary disclosures.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective compliance policies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Preference for candidates with prior in-house or government experience.
