American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg position in an acute care setting requiring an active IL license, trauma level 1 and travel neuro experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care hospital environment
- Patient population includes individuals with stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, neuroscience conditions, and some medical overflow
- Night shift position, 3x12 hour shifts (1900-0700), including every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:5-6 on nights
- Required to float in rotation with staff; general unit floats take a full assignment, other units only skills-appropriate tasks
- Titrate drips such as heparin based on PTT; must have experience with heparin gtt
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
- Unit uses EPIC for documentation; charting experience preferred
- Phillips telemetry monitors used but nurses are not required to read strips
- Participate in a two-day, unit-specific orientation with an educator and a preceptor
- No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permitted
- Float assignments based on competency when outside the home unit
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required
- Team includes nurse aides and patient care techs with established support ratios
- No call or standby requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year of recent neuro unit experience required
- Travel nursing experience required; first time travelers not accepted
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Certifications required: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS, both active at time of consideration
- Must have experience titrating heparin drips
- Ability to work night shifts, every other weekend, and holidays
