American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position in a Level 1 trauma setting with EVD and ICP monitoring skills required.
Responsibilities- Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within an acute hospital environment
- Level 1 trauma center with a critical care neurological patient population
- Common cases include craniotomies, brain tumors, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spinal surgeries
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 in ICU, and 4:1 when floating to telemetry units
- Required to float to all ICU and telemetry units with patient assignment as needed
- Uses Cerner EMR and Phillips monitors for telemetry
- Ventilator and ICP monitoring required, RT and pharmacy available 24/7
- 12-hour day shifts (7am-7pm) with at least 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks and 2 of 3 major holidays required
- Floor orientation provided for 2 shifts
- Perform neuro critical care nursing duties including assessment and management of neurosurgical and neuro-trauma patients
- Expected to maintain sterile technique and successfully complete SIMs Lab skills for relevant procedures during orientation
- May be placed on standby for scheduled shifts
- Required to wear any color or print of scrubs except for steel grey on neuro floors
- Holiday shifts are worked into the core staff rotation
- Facial piercings not allowed and natural hair color required; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Returning travelers who were employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year are not eligible
- Active RN license (state or compact) required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large facility (450+ beds) with Level 1 trauma experience required
- Travel experience of 3-6 months mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Must have strong neuro assessment skills and experience with external ventricular drains (EVD) and ICP monitoring
- Required to pass pre-employment dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer, with two attempts permitted
- References: one supervisor reference from within the past 12 months and another peer or supervisor reference from within the past 3 years
- Subject to a pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one of orientation
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver's license
- Candidates cannot have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility (full time, part time, or PRN) within the past year
