This position is for a full-time Emergency Room Physician at a Level II trauma center in Maine, managing a wide variety of emergency cases with a focus on elderly patients and critical care transfers. The role involves flexible scheduling with options for per diem and part-time work and teamwork with specially trained medical staff in a high-volume rural hospital emergency department. Physicians handle urgent cases while collaborating with other providers for less severe patients and coordinate patient transfers to tertiary care centers when necessary.
Maine - Emergency Medicine • Client currently has a need for a full-time Emergency Room Physician to work in their 24-hour ED which sees about 16,000 visits per year. • The ED is a Level II trauma center, and sees a wide variety of cases, however, major trauma, cardiac, neurosurgery and other critical cases are transported to a tertiary care center. • The physicians and nursing staff are specially trained in emergency medicine. • The department has one trauma room and 11 exam rooms. • Although patients are seen in order of severity of illness, a PA or Nurse Practitioner may see patients with less urgent needs. • The ER physicians develop their own schedules, generally working three 12-hour shifts one week, and four the next. • In addition to working a full-time schedule, they can offer a flexible staffing model, such as per diem, and part-time; working site visits are welcomed. • The Medical Center is one of four rural hospitals in the County; the Emergency Department boasts the highest Emergency Medicine volume of all four hospitals. • The majority of our ER patients are elderly with cardiac and respiratory complaints comprising a good portion of their visits, along with the expected primary care and emergent care visits. Their largest patient transfers consist of psychiatric, trauma, neurosurgical, and emergency cardiac situations. They utilize the services of a fixed-wing air ambulance service with a 40-minute in-air time to Bangor, Maine, location of the nearest Level 1 Trauma Center and Cardiac Cath Lab. • The ER physicians are employees of the hospital and are paid on an hourly basis, negotiable based on experience. • The hospital will pay a portion of the health insurance f
