Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Nephrology position on nights, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a hospital acute care setting on a Nephrology Med/Surg unit
• 21-bed unit with mostly private rooms and overhead lift equipment in all rooms
• Primary patient population includes ESRD, AKI, hemo- and peritoneal dialysis, transplant, urology, and general med overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Works 3x12 hour night shifts (1900-0700) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
• Epic EMR system is used
• Floating may be required to other general med units and, infrequently, as a sitter or helper to ED or ICU
• Self-scheduling is available and block scheduling is possible
• No call requirements
• No requirement to titrate drips; charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
• Patient care techs on each shift with a ratio of 1:10-11
• Responsibilities include bedside reports and 1-2 hour rounding on patients
• Overhead lift equipment available for safe patient handling
• Orientation consists of 3 days with a preceptor
• Holiday coverage is required on an every-other-holiday basis with some flexibility
• Dress code allows any color scrubs; no artificial or gel nails, no chipped polish, and limited visible jewelry
• First time travelers will be considered
• No COVID-19 vaccination requirement
• Local rates apply to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum of 1 year RN experience required
• General medical background required; nephrology or urology experience preferred but not required
• Must pass a drug screen for all panels as the employer is a drug-free campus
