American Traveler seeks an experienced RN to join an adult ICU team for a trauma level 2 setting, requiring a NE or compact RN license and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in an adult ICU within an acute care hospital
- Unit has 33 beds with an average daily census of 16
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2-3 for adults
- Common cases include trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
- Requires titration of cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
- Use of RT equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Monitors are GE brand, RNs are required to interpret and document telemetry strips
- EMR system used is Epic
- 12-hour night shifts are required
- Every other weekend and a minimum of 2 holidays during contract are required
- Floating required, primarily to PCU and occasionally to MedSurg with appropriate patient ratios
- RNs must pass a skills exam during orientation with a 90% or higher to continue assignment
- One shift of unit-specific orientation is provided
- Up to 7 days of requested time off (RTO) will be accepted upfront per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved
- Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care providers; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Nurse aides and healthcare support techs provide additional support based on census and need
- Self-scheduling is permitted for core staff; travelers are added in and block scheduling is not guaranteed except for weekends
- First time travelers are not excluded from consideration
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required, no pending certifications accepted
- Experience titrating cardiac drips and interpreting telemetry required
- Driver’s license required to verify permanent address for a 50-mile radius rule
- Candidates may not have been employed in any capacity by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
