American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an IMU Stepdown position requiring a compact or WV RN license and strong telemetry skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes chest pain, MI rule-outs, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre/post caths, and other intermediate acuity cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5, occasionally 1:4 or 1:6
- Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors and Allscripts Sunrise EMR
- Required to read and interpret cardiac strips; Tele Techs available but RNs must be proficient
- Must be able to titrate drips including amiodarone, cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, labetalol, nitro, and heparin
- 12-hour shifts starting at 6:45am or 6:45pm; days and nights as scheduled
- Weekend requirement is at least 4 day or night shifts per 4-week schedule; if working straight days, 3 night shifts per 4 weeks are required
- Floating to Telemetry, MedSurg, and Pandemic Unit as needed with patient ratios up to 1:7
- RN will manage and monitor various drips and cardiac interventions for stepdown-level patients
- Support from charge nurses, clinical assistants, 24/7 RT, pharmacy, and IV teams
- First day includes HR orientation and precepted floor orientation with additional support on the second day
- RN must wear navy blue scrubs; no hoodies allowed
- Flexible holiday coverage may be needed, though perm staff usually provide coverage
- Self-scheduling is allowed with up to 4 requested days off per month as long as unit needs are met
- Returning travelers to WVU must not have worked in the system for longer than one year without a 2-year break
- Active WV or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of recent stepdown or IMU experience
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Proficient in reading and interpreting telemetry strips
- Experience with titration of cardiac drips required
- Allscripts Sunrise EMR experience preferred
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility for travel eligibility
- Past employment within WVU Medicine requires a 2-year break before consideration for rehire
- Must pass required EKG testing for stepdown units
- Proof of unexpired driver’s license is required for consideration
