Job Summary:
The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician Lead plays a key leadership role in ensuring a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors in a healthcare setting. The EVS Lead provides daily direction and support to EVS staff, monitors cleaning standards, and ensures compliance with hospital infection control protocols and safety guidelines. The EVS Lead serves as a working team member, performing routine and specialized cleaning tasks while also coordinating shift activities, training new employees, and addressing operational needs in real time. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow the Organizations procedures, and the skills to lead by example while fostering a positive and efficient team environment.
Hours:
- 1.0 FTE - 40 Hours Per Week
- Monday through Friday: 3PM - 11:30PM
Essential Job Functions:
- Assign daily tasks, monitor work performance, and provide on-the-job guidance and support to environmental services staff to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality service.
- Assist with the onboarding and training of new EVS team members; reinforce proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor supply levels and coordinate with management to ensure adequate stock of cleaning materials and proper functioning of equipment.
- Complete required logs and reports accurately; escalate unresolved issues or unusual incidents to supervisory staff.
- Support departmental meetings by helping coordinate agendas, share updates, and document key points and follow-ups
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of all patient/non patient care areas in the facility.
- Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.
- Adheres to all organization safety, risk management and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety.
- Accountable for accurately maintaining all appropriate logs and check lists/sheets current
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and areas of assignment according to procedures, policies and manufacturer recommendations.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the cleaning and disinfecting requirements specific to highly sensitive environments.
- Demonstrates understanding of the training and education related to evidence based recommendations from the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for Professional in Infection Control (APIC) and Association for peri-Operative Nurses (AORN), CDC, The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.
- Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
- Maintains supplies and equipment by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion
- Removes waste and transport to appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste streams (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous).
- Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA)
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
- Previous cleaning experience in a hospital environment is required
- Must possess a cell phone that interfaces with the organization’s secure messaging system
