American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool night shift position requiring ICU experience and active AZ or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital-based float pool covering ICU, MedSurg, Telemetry, and PCU units at multiple campuses
- Care for adult and geriatric patients including post-MI, post-cardiac cath, and post-op cardiac patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg Tele 1:5-6
- Care settings include inpatients holding in ED, stepdown, and telemetry units, with double occupancy rooms
- Float assignments may include both East and West campuses, with 20-25 minutes between locations
- Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend, and first to float
- On-call standby may occur during overstaffed shifts with notification up to 2 hours before the shift
- Orientation includes an 8-hour general day plus 12-hour unit-specific shifts
- Cerner is used as the EMR system
- Travelers are scheduled by a float pool scheduler and must be flexible with unit assignments
- Travelers are rotated into full-time staff holiday requirements
- All units have charge nurses who do not take patient assignments and utilize nurse aides
- Monitor techs support telemetry and PCU units, but RNs must read and interpret their own strips
- Dress code is currently solid color professional scrubs, transitioning to navy scrubs in October
- Must pass skills tests for sterile technique during the first day of orientation
- Travelers are required to float within the designated float zone as needed
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years RN experience with at least 1 year in ICU setting required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Ability to titrate drips including heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, and insulin
- Must interpret ECG strips independently
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam (minimum score 80%) within two attempts before contract signing
- Comfortable using respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow devices
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license for consideration
- Two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
- No employment with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities in the past year
