This locum tenens position involves providing direct patient care in hematology and oncology, including evaluation, treatment, and management of patients at a VA medical center in West Virginia. The physician will conduct clinical assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and coordinate care with other healthcare providers while also supervising medical residents and mid-level practitioners. The role requires adherence to clinical protocols, effective communication, and participation in hospital and community meetings to ensure high standards of patient care.
Oncologist/Hematologist Responsibilities will Include:9/1-6 monthsM-F 8-4:30 Clinic and rounding on patientsPhysicians clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process.Provides direct hands-on patient care including evaluation and treatment of the hematology/oncology patients, determination whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting, and management of chronic disease.Comprehensive initial medical/psychosocial history and physical examinationOrder appropriate diagnostic tests and work-upReview and interpret diagnostic tests and take appropriate actionFormulate and record diagnostic impressionsRefer patients with appropriate consultations both within the VA and in the communityProvide clinical guidance to patients, families and other health care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give adviceEnsure accurate documentation of medical assessments, interactions and observations.Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students. May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistantsEnter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing etc.Demonstrates current clinical practiceAttend Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferencesEstablishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient careDemonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication and provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education.Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic proceduresOther duties as assigned
