The EHS Specialist at Abbott's Altavista, VA Distribution Center supports the development and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and workplace safety. What You’ll Work On
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) professional supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s EHS programs by applying established principles, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
This role contributes to maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace through hands on support, routine monitoring, and solutions oriented problem solving.
Working collaboratively with operational team members, the EHS professional helps interpret and apply EHS expectations, supports training and awareness efforts, and assists in identifying and addressing workplace hazards.
The role engages with internal auditors to prepare for and participate in audits, ensuring documentation, processes, and corrective actions meet organizational and regulatory expectations.
Occasional interaction with external parties—such as regulators, consultants, or contractors—may occur to support compliance, reporting, or site activities.
Project Management: · Plans and conducts assigned projects. Coordinates and monitors activities/projects. Assists planning and monitoring status of implementation for those assigned to project. Makes judgments regarding quality of implementation. Facilitates the definition of a project scope with stakeholders. Estimates and coordinates resources needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks. Jointly responsible for achieving the project’s EHS targets in support of business objectives.
Main support given to Logistics/Warehouse setting.
Occasional travel to other US locations for benchmarking and/or support.
You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Occupational Health, Engineering, Science, or closely related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum 2 years relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
EHS Relevant professional certifications are desirable

The base pay for this position is $61,300.00 – $122,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
