American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license and strong stepdown/telemetry skills.
Responsibilities- Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Intermediate Care (IMC) at an acute care, Level I trauma teaching hospital
- Care for a diverse caseload including neuro, cardiac, ortho, GI, renal, psych, plastic surgery, and respiratory stepdown patients
- Patient-to-nurse ratios or daily caseload details based on unit needs
- Night shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hours, with every other weekend required
- Must float as needed within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals
- Block scheduling may be discussed with the manager
- Uses Cerner EMR; Cerner experience preferred
- Responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care for stepdown and telemetry patients including cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Team-based environment with interdisciplinary collaboration and Magnet hospital designation
- Must participate in care for a variety of cases including post-cardiac cath, neurosurgery, ortho trauma, and ventilated patients
- Must be flexible to float within hospital and to nearby affiliates as needed
- Required to work two out of three major holidays during the contract
- A maximum of 5 days requested time off is auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- Dress code allows any solid color scrubs
- No previous permanent or PRN employment at Memorial in the last 12 months
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
- Parking permit is required but provided free of charge
- Active IL RN license required at the time of application
- Minimum 1 year of recent stepdown, telemetry, or PCU/IMC experience
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Experience required in telemetry, neuro stepdown, cardiac monitoring, emergency response, post cardiac procedures, IV therapy, medication titration, and various specialty cases (ortho trauma, wound care, ventilated patients, etc.)
- Must have strong skills in interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and responding to rapid response/emergency calls
- Teaching hospital and Level I trauma experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred
