Summary
The Open Heart Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for meeting patients priority needs through assessment, participating in interdisciplinary care planning, providing and /or delegating care based on patient needs and evaluating patients responses. The Open Heart RN contributes to an efficient and effective work environment through professional communication and documentation, preceptoring and/or resourcing of others.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
*Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patients presenting problems/needs in accordance with Bryan Medical Centers policies and procedures.
*Synthesizes pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes/goals.
*Integrates the patients plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs.
*Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions consistent with perioperative procedures.
*Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs.
*Evaluates the patients response to and effectiveness of interventions.
*Evaluates patients progress toward established outcomes.
*Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan and delivery of care.
*Documents patient care and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures for documentation.
*Provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
*Facilitates patients transition to the next level of care.
*Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team members practices through timely communication.
*Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to the work unit and duties of the job.
*Performs therapeutic nursing interventions consistent with the intraoperataive care of the cardio-thoracic surgical patient including:
* initiating advanced cardiac life support guidelines;
* performing dysrrhythmia assessment and intervention;
* providing pre- and intra-operative care;
* performing hemodynamic monitoring and vasoactive medication administration.
*Manages the care of the patients with conditions including:
* multi-system failure/cardio-thoracic trauma;
* acute cardiovascular disease;
* acute respiratory failure;
* acute neurological insult/injury;
* acute renal failure.
*Demonstrates ability to manage the care of patients receiving:
* coronary bypass;
* valve procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
