Job Details:
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas
• Administer competent care through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, and aerosol therapy
• Perform respiratory care procedures and treatments to assess, prevent, stabilize or remedy respiratory dysfunction
• Provide standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and arterial punctures
• Manage all aspects of airway management including aspiration, tracheostomy care, tube changes, endotracheal intubations and extubations
• Carolina Air Care responsibilities include transporting pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals per UNC Air Care Protocol
• Perform advanced practice procedures including UAC, UVC, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, and blood glucose monitoring
• ECMO management for extracorporeal circulation providing cardiac and respiratory support
• Must be able to work with NICU, PICU, and other critical care units
• May be required to be on-call days, nights, weekends and holidays
• Perform comprehensive ventilator care including setup, verification, and specialized ventilator modes
• Provide appropriate patient monitoring and weaning techniques
• Function independently with minimal supervision and serve as resource to other staff
• Two years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist required
• Current RRT certification by NBRC required
• Must maintain at least one of the following: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or advanced practice certificate for moderate sedation
• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program required
• Temp to perm position with local candidates reviewed first
