American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 trauma stepdown unit with a 2-year minimum acute care requirement and night shift availability.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 24-bed stepdown unit
- Patient population includes trauma, neuro, medical/surgical, complex wound, respiratory, and diabetic cases
- Unit specializes in brain and spinal cord injuries, complex trauma, chronic vent-dependent and respiratory compromised patients, and post-operative surgical interventions
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3, supported by clinical associates and aides
- Requires titration of drips such as cardizem, labetalol, and amiodarone
- 24 monitored telemetry beds with central monitoring tech coverage; basic EKG interpretation required by RNs
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- Night shifts from 7p-7a with every other weekend and rotating holiday requirements
- No call requirement; floating within unit rotation
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Provide advanced nursing care to acutely ill trauma and med/surg stepdown patients
- Drip titration is required, though no sedative drips are used in this stepdown unit
- 11 rooms are equipped with in-ceiling lifts to promote early patient mobility
- Orientation with a clinical preceptor provided specific to the 8NE unit
- Holiday work is assigned on a rotational basis
- Travel RNs are included in the unit's regular float rotation
- Pass/fail EKG testing required for stepdown nurses
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Extensions not available until 45 days from end of current contract
- Active WV or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS required
- Ability to interpret basic EKGs and monitor telemetry patients
- Strong assessment skills and adaptability to a fast-paced environment
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility address
- Must provide an unexpired driver’s license for consideration
- Previous perm or traveler employees must have a 2-year separation from any WVU facility
