Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position caring for high acuity patients, requiring a compact or MD RN license and extensive ICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) at a large academic hospital
• Care for high acuity patients including those with end stage renal and hepatic disease, multisystem organ failure, autoimmune and pulmonary disorders, critically ill antepartum/postpartum patients, oncology cases, and complex medical diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2
• Use of Epic EMR is preferred
• Rotating 12-hour shifts (7A/7P), including every other weekend
• Float as needed to units with similar skill requirements
• Two availability call shifts per 6-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required as needed
• Orientation held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month
• Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill adult patients with complex medical and surgical conditions
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a high-acuity, academic environment
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate except for specific locations with radius restrictions
• Frequent exposure to varied medical cases including MSOF, ARDS, ESLD, ESRD, DIC, sepsis, IVDU, HIV, CHF, and lung transplant patients
• Must be available for holiday and weekend coverage as scheduled

Requirements

• Active MD or compact RN license
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2.5 years of strong ICU experience with at least one prior contract in a MICU at a facility with 500+ beds
• Academic institution experience preferred
• Current surgical ICU experience (2 years) and at least two previous travel assignments preferred
• Critical Care certification, trauma course, ACLS, and Epic experience are preferred
