Emergency Medicine Physicians rapidly assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute or life-threatening conditions in the Emergency Department. They perform emergency procedures, stabilize critical patients, and collaborate with specialists while supervising medical staff. Their role also includes patient communication, medical documentation, compliance, quality improvement, and teaching responsibilities.
- Role: Emergency Department Physicians
- Period Of Performance: The period of performance will be a 12 months base from the date of award.
- Clinical Duties:
Rapid Patient Assessment: Triage and prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Perform physical examinations, order tests (labs, imaging), and diagnose acute illnesses, injuries, or life-threatening conditions.
Performing Emergency Procedures: Conduct CPR, intubations, suturing, fracture reductions, wound care, and other life-saving interventions.
Medication Administration: Prescribe and administer appropriate medications, including pain relief, antibiotics, or emergency drugs.
Stabilization and Resuscitation: Manage critical patients with conditions such as cardiac arrest, stroke, or trauma.
Collaboration with Specialists: Consult and refer patients to appropriate specialists or admit them to the hospital if needed.
Supervision of Medical Staff: Guide and oversee nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare providers in the ED.
Handling Multiple Cases Simultaneously: Work under high-pressure environments with multiple patients at different levels of urgency.
Patient and Family Communication: Explain diagnoses, treatments, and next steps to patients and their families.
Medical Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records for continuity of care.
Compliance with Regulations: Follow hospital protocols, state, and federal healthcare regulations.
Quality Improvement Initiatives: Participate in performance reviews, training, and hospital improvement programs.
Teaching and Mentorship: Educate medical students, residents, and junior staff in emergency medicine.
Discharge Planning: Provide follow-up instructions and coordinate outpatient care if necessary.
Required:
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
- BLS, ACLS, DEA certificate
- MI state license.
