The Wound, Burn and Ostomy Physician provides specialized wound care management in an outpatient clinic setting, including treatment of acute and chronic wounds, burns, and ulcers. Responsibilities include debridement, hyperbaric oxygen therapy supervision, skin grafting, and patient education to promote wound healing and prevent complications. This locum tenens role offers support during a provider transition in a collaborative clinical environment using EMR systems such as Epic.
We are seeking a locum tenens Wound Care Physician to provide coverage during a transition period between permanent providers. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established wound care program in a supportive and collaborative clinical environment.
Position Details:
Practice Setting: Outpatient Wound Care Clinic
Volume: patients per day
EMR: Epic
Trauma Level: Not designated
Reason for Coverage: Physician gap between permanent hires
Clinical Responsibilities:
The locum physician will be responsible for providing comprehensive wound management, including but not limited to:
General Wound Care Duties:
Treating skin reactions and preventing skin breakdown
Managing vascular ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers
Initiating preventive measures to reduce incidence of ulceration
Providing and applying topical therapies
Assessing and treating draining wounds and fistulae
Educating patients and caregivers on wound care techniques and prevention
Implementing wound dressing strategies and patient-centered education
Specialized Care & Procedures:
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) supervision
Debridement
Incision and drainage
Negative-pressure wound therapy
Total contact casting
Bioengineered skin application
Skin grafting:
Post-surgical incision management
Use of Unna boots
Wound Types Treated
Acute wounds across all healing phases
Surgical and post-surgical non-healing wounds
Traumatic wounds (abrasions, punctures, tears, burns)
Ulcers: arterial, venous insufficiency, pressure, diabetic
Chronic venous insufficiency
Pilonidal cysts
Gangrene
Radiation injuries
Burns
Requirements:
Active Ohio medical license
BLS certification
ACLS
Experience with HBOT supervision strongly preferred
