Works under the supervision of the nurse manager/clinical coordinator/PAT APRN. The Pre-Admission Testing RN is responsible for assessing, educating, and preparing patients prior to surgical or invasive procedures. This role ensures patients are medically optimized, required testing is completed, and potential risks are identified to promote safe surgical outcomes. The RN also reviews the patients medical records to ensure consistency and accuracy. The RN works closely with the PAT clinics APRN and other members of PAT and surgical teams to coordinate pre-surgical needs including pre-op education, appropriate tests, medical consultations, and pre-op covid testing and post-op follow-up.

Responsibilities
1. Triage of the surgical/procedural patient and assessing health status and associated risks 2. Provide related patient education, pre and post procedural instructions 3. Coordination of required pre-procedural ancillary tests, anesthesia and sedation risk assessment 4. Collect patient information to ensure that EMR has all the necessary information for upcoming procedure 5. Anticipate provider needs and follow up with provider requests in a timely manner 6. Monitor patient EMR to ensure patient completes all appropriate tests, consultations, and education and complete for upcoming procedure 7. Works with patients prior to surgery to complete paperwork and help answer question or calm fears about surgery 8. Assessment of patients who may be appropriate or needing APRN preop visit 9. Delivers high quality comprehensive and individualized care incorporating patient assessment, problem identification, establishment of desired outcomes, implementation of interventions, and evaluation of care with necessary revisions. 10 . Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, staff, and self-development as outlined in performance review. 11. Adequate understanding of operative procedures, required patient preparations, and expected post op care 12. Must possess demonstrated communication skills which indicate the ability to be successful at extracting pertinent pre-surgical information, counseling and teaching 13. Able to perform accurate and complete patient assessments over the telephone pre -op and post-op. Skilled in the patient population age-based competencies, note and document special needs such and hearing and sight alterations, limitations in mobility, comprehension and cognitive skills, medication vulnerability and healing restrictions and psycho-social needs. 14. Contributes to fluctuating staffing needs of PAT Clinic by being flexible in own assignments and work schedules when required. 15. Responds to life saving situations based upon PSC and L&M hospital policies and procedures. 16. Meets expectations of the standards of professional behavior. 17. Performs duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department 18. Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, staff, and self-development as outlined in performance review Qualifications
EDUCATION
BSN, CAPA or CPAN certification preferred
EXPERIENCE
2 years of pre-post-operative experience preferred. Acute care experience preferred. Bilingual preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse license
