The Assistant Vice President - Corporate Claims manages and supports the resolution of complex Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance claims, providing risk mitigation advice and legal consultation. The role involves managing claims lifecycle activities, collaborating with litigation teams, and advocating for optimal client outcomes. This position requires strong knowledge of insurance coverage, claims handling, and risk management within a corporate claims environment.
Overview
This role is responsible for providing comprehensive support in the management and resolution of E&O claims across internal business units. The position requires a strong foundation in legal analysis, insurance coverage, and risk mitigation, with the ability to navigate complex claims and advocate for optimal client outcomes. The individual will consult on risk management issues, support litigation teams, and maintain detailed reporting and documentation throughout the claims lifecycle.
How you'll make an impact
- Provide E&O claim support to internal business units
- Consult on risk management and mitigation issues
- Reporting related to claims handling
- Review legal documents and support litigation team as requested
- Claim management including status, file updates, financial updates and closure
- Acts as an advocate for most complex clients and claims, demonstrating advanced problem resolution skills and the ability to manage and communicate issues for key accounts by providing coverage advice to clients
- Reviews coverage positions and challenges adjusters as warranted while advocating the best possible outcome for clients in accordance with service standards
- Facilitates client meetings, claims reviews and vendor visits
- Responsible for negotiating changes in reserves for a positive client outcome, providing status reports to clients as required by any applicable service plan, and reviewing action plans and reserves
- Reviews all new problematic or complex claims on designated clients and formulates a plan of action to achieve a favorable claim resolution
- Ability to assess legal exposure, formulate plan, communicate with others, and manage claims through resolution
- Provide risk management and claims support to internal business partners on issues related to business operations, handling of professional liability claims, and consultation on mitigation and risk management issues
- Analyze insurance policies and claims, analysis of coverage and liability issues, and providing advice and recommendations to business leadership; facilitating the settlement of claims within area of responsibility; and creating concise summaries of plans, status, recommendations, and risks along with a path to resolution.
- Support litigation attorneys as requested to review briefs, discovery, documents, and to attend mediations, trials, other proceedings as needed.
- Use business systems to track claim development and process other documents essential for file maintenance.

About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience
- 5 years' related experience in claims. Strong knowledge of claim and coverage issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge and working ability to use all claims and business related software.
Preferred:
- Recognized insurance designations a plus
- Juris Doctor (JD)
- Admission to a state bar association in good standing.
- Litigation experience or equivalent claims handling 5+ years experience
Behaviors:
- Understanding of the lines of coverage within area of responsibility.
- Strong organization skills and ability to maintain diverse and large workload while meeting deadlines.
