American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for night shifts in a Level II trauma center, requiring a NE or compact RN license and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care ICU with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, post-stent, post-pacemaker, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress in adult patients
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:2-3 for adults
- RNs titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips and manage patients on nasal cannula to vent
- Required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips on GE monitors with tele tech oversight
- Typical shift is 12-hour nights; every other weekend and at least two holidays are required within the contract
- Floating may occur to PCU or MedSurg, maintaining similar patient ratios
- Uses Epic EMR, experience preferred
- Orientation includes one 12-hour shift
- RNs are responsible for titrating drips and responding to high-acuity patients across a range of diagnoses
- Nurse aides and healthcare support techs provide supplemental support based on census and need
- RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- RTO (up to 7 days per 13 weeks) must be requested upfront; blocked scheduling not permitted except possibly for weekends
- Holiday coverage is required for at least two contract holidays
- Unit follows a 50-mile radius rule for eligibility and payment; local candidates must meet this requirement
- Previous travelers are accepted if they meet the experience and employment gap criteria
- Active NE or compact (NLC) RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent ICU RN experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are mandatory
- Must be able to titrate critical care drips and manage ventilated patients
- Experience reading and documenting on telemetry, using GE monitors
- Two references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
- Must provide a valid driver's license for radius verification
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
