Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Cardiac Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring two years of recent experience and strong neuro assessment skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Neuro Cardiac Med/Surg Tele unit at a hospital setting
• Care provided to complex Med/Surg/Tele patients including post-cardiac caths, CVA/TIA, ICDs, complex abdominal surgeries, oncology, and post-craniotomy cases
• 32-bed unit with night shift schedule from 6:30pm to 7am
• Typical patient ratio is 1:6–7 at night
• Must work three weekends per six-week schedule and every other holiday
• Float required within skillset, possibly to Deaconess Midtown or Henderson campuses with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
• Use of Epic EMR with required recent experience
• Telemetry monitoring required including 12-lead EKG interpretation
• No on-call responsibilities
• Responsibilities include care for complex neuro, cardiac, and post-surgical patients
• Required to initiate and titrate cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips and handle heart cath recovery
• Preferred skills include NG/PEG tube care, PIV insertion, Tikosyn administration, and chest tube management
• Staff includes proactive charge nurses and helpful clerical support
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment on all shifts
• Candidate may be required to precept students and new hires in a teaching hospital environment
• Navy blue scrubs required, with no competing health system or agency logos
• COVID-19 vaccine is not required at this time but is subject to change
• First-time travelers will not be considered

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license
• Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum two years of strong Tele/Med/Surg experience and prior travel assignment
• Trauma level II experience required
• Recent Epic charting experience required
• Proficiency in NIHSS, dysphagia screening, strong neuro assessment skills, telemetry, EKG interpretation, and initiation/titration of various drips
• Must pass relevant telemetry skills test
• Must live more than 40 miles from the facility
