Job DescriptionThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs and collaborates on care delivery, ensuring appropriate interventions are applied and patient progress is evaluated. They utilize various invasive and non-invasive procedures, demonstrating the ability to manage both life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
Responsibilities- Connects with patients and families during triage, identifying the initial management needs of patients of all age groups.
- Conducts primary assessments, detects deviations from normal parameters, and documents findings within acceptable time frames.
- Assesses psychosocial needs and documents any concerns regarding domestic violence or abuse.
- Encourages teamwork and mutual respect among colleagues for optimal patient outcomes.
- Prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and post-emergency care referrals.
- Maintains effective communication with patients and families throughout the ED visit, anticipating needs and providing updates.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only) required.
- One-year acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse is mandatory.
- NYS RN Licensure required.
