American Traveler is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist for a hybrid inpatient/outpatient oncology rehab role requiring BLS certification, Illinois SLP licensure, and at least 2 years of experience.
Responsibilities- Hybrid inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation setting with a focus on oncology, including head and neck cancer patients
- Responsibilities include tracheostomy and laryngectomy care and conducting cognitive, language, speech, and voice assessments and treatments
- Commonly performed procedures include modified barium swallow studies
- Day shift schedule: three 8-hour shifts per week, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
- No on-call, float, or weekend shifts required
- Patients include young, middle-aged, and older adults
- Documentation is completed using Epic EMR
- Duties include assessment and treatment of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in oncology patients
- Care for patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies, including education for patients and families
- Average orientation period is approximately 80 hours with about 72 hours on the clinical floor
- Scrub color is wine; scrubs are not provided
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (October-March)
- Travel pairs are allowed
- Locals are accepted at the local pay rate if residing within a 75-mile radius
- Former employees will not be considered for travel positions
- Current and valid Illinois SLP license required if applicable
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA only, no HeartCode)
- Minimum 2 years of SLP experience required, 5 years preferred
- Experience with dysarthria, dysphagia, tracheostomy, voice, bedside swallow evaluations, and modified barium swallow studies
- Ability to interpret modified barium swallow studies and identify signs of patient abuse
- Experience in administering assessments, discharge planning, point of service documentation, and patient/family education
- Experience with young, middle, and older adult patients
