American Traveler is seeking an RN for an Acute Care long-term care setting with at least one year of nursing experience and a current MT or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in a long-term care (LTC) unit with a typical census of fewer than 40 residents
- Patient population includes convalescent long-term care, post-stroke, CHF, hospice, respite care, and IDDM
- No ventilator or tracheostomy patients currently in the unit
- Patient ratio is approximately 1 nurse to 20-25 residents during the day; 2 nurses on days and 1 nurse at night
- Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) have a 1:10-12 ratio during days and 3 CNAs are on each night shift
- Shift is 12-hour days; may also work other shift lengths as scheduled
- Every other weekend is required and 1-2 holidays per contract may be scheduled
- Charting is done in PointClickCare (PCC)
- Medication is dispensed via medication cart loaded by the nurse
- Main responsibilities include medication administration, minimal nighttime medication passes, and one morning blood sugar check for diabetic patients
- Charge nurses take a full patient load during shifts
- Phlebotomy team handles peripheral blood draws; floor nurses handle central line draws
- Support available from Director of Nursing, ward clerk (day shifts), hospitalist (24/7), and therapy staff (days only)
- Two days of on-unit floor orientation with a preceptor are provided before working independently
- Facility orientation is on the first day and includes HR screening and meeting the Director of Nursing
- Scrubs of any color may be worn as long as they are professional
- Natural nails must not exceed ¼ inch in length
- Parking is free and available onsite
- First-time travelers will be considered for this role
- Approval from Director of Nursing required for more than 7 days of time off and for holidays
- Current MT or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association required
- At least 1 year of RN experience required, but prior LTC experience is not mandatory
- Experience with convalescent, post-stroke, CHF, hospice, respite, and diabetic patient care required
