American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with at least 18 months of recent MedSurg or ICU experience and Cerner or Epic EMR proficiency.
Responsibilities- Work in a large hospital with multiple MedSurg units, including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and Urology/ENT/Ortho
- Patient populations include general surgery, trauma, neuro, oncology, med/surg, ortho, urology, and spine
- Patient ratios generally 1:5-6 depending on unit
- Responsibilities across units may include wound care, chest tubes, trach care, IV skills, medication administration, chemo administration (if certified), and telemetry interpretation
- Float as needed between like units and support as assigned according to staffing needs
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, with every other weekend or four weekend days per month required
- Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor holiday per policy
- Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell, Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitoring is handled by technicians, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours
- No on-call requirements
- Assigned a home unit during orientation, but expected to float as needed between compatible units
- Unit support includes CNAs, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, charge nurse, hospitalists, and reception staff
- Orientation includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours of unit time for those new or returning after over 1 year
- Required to interpret and confirm all telemetry readings every 4 hours, even though monitoring is performed by telemetry techs
- Scrub color is flexible and any color may be worn
- Parking is provided in the hospital parking deck on levels 2 through 4
- No self-scheduling; scheduling is managed on a four-week rotation cycle
- Maximum of 7 days of approved time off, excluding facility blackout dates
- Active RN license in AL or a Compact state
- At least 18 months of recent MedSurg and/or ICU experience; ICU-only experience must include Cerner proficiency
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience working with Cerner or Epic EMR
- At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience required for trauma/surgical units
- Telemetry interpretation experience preferred
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Must not have been employed at this facility or health system within the last 6 months
- Applicants must live more than 60 miles from the facility
