American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position on a night shift, requiring a ND or compact RN license, PCU experience, and ACLS/BLS certification.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care hospital setting on a combined Med/Tele/PCU stepdown unit
- 32-bed unit with adult and geriatric patient population, including cardiac, medical, and overflow PCU-level cases
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights, with PCU overflow at 1:3
- Patients include those with cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory illnesses, and acute-on-chronic conditions
- RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac rhythm strips and titrate drips such as amiodarone, cardizem, heparin, nitro, nipride, lasix, and low-dose dopamine
- Uses Epic EMR; experience is preferred
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts, every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Floating required to PCU, Med/Surg, and ER holds as needed
- Any color scrubs allowed
- RNs are responsible for titrating cardiac and other critical drips and managing patients requiring respiratory support devices such as BiPAP and trachs
- Charge nurse present on each shift; may carry a light patient load
- Team supported by nurse aides with a typical goal ratio of 1:10
- Tele/monitor tech available at nurses station; portable and in-room monitors provided
- Two 12-hour orientation shifts provided, typically on a Friday and Saturday of the first week
- RTO requests must be submitted up front and may not exceed 7 days per 13-week contract
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years recent RN experience in Med/Tele/PCU or stepdown settings
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Proven ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
- PCU experience mandatory
- Two professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Copy of driver's license required
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates must not have been employed by any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI and Dignity) within the past year
