American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring ACLS, BCLS, and NIH certifications with strong cardiac and stepdown skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes multi-organ failure, liver failure, pulmonary, cardiac conditions, and stable vented patients
- Patient ratio is 1:5 with almost ICU level acuity and management of multiple cardiac drips
- Night shifts are 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30
- Travelers may be required to float to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU units at the hospital or affiliate hospitals
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned with appropriate training and support
- Charting is performed using Cerner EMR, prior experience required
- Travelers may be assigned students to shadow or be asked to precept
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Up to 5 days of requested time off are automatically approved
- Candidates must be willing to work every other weekend and may be required to work consecutive weekends according to operational needs
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Charge pay offered for periods spent in charge role
- Unit provides additional resources and training for floating and charge coverage
- All travelers must be comfortable with a teaching environment and being assigned students
- Only non-local candidate submissions will be considered for this role
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of recent PCU, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown experience required
- Current certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and NIH from AHA or RQI
- Must have experience titrating cardiac drips, starting IVs, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and prior charge nurse experience
- Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required
- Cerner EMR charting experience required
- Not accepting local candidates for PCU—only travelers from outside the local area considered
- Must be away from previous permanent or PRN employment with the health system for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
