Performs manual and torch brazing of metal workpieces following established procedures, selecting appropriate torch tips, flux, and alloys to join or repair components. Aligns and secures parts in fixtures, adjusts gas flows and flame characteristics, inspects seams, rebrazes or removes defective joints, and may operate resistance welding equipment. Requires basic reading/measuring skills, physical stamina for lifting and standing, and familiarity with tools, safety, and routine instructions.
The Torch Brazer must possess the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Prior brazing experience a plus
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to read a measuring tape
- Ability to follow instructions & inspect material
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds intermittently
- Standing most of the time on concrete floors
- Ability to do repetitive bending, reaching, stretching, lifting and twisting, pushing and pulling

- Works from established routines and procedures, written and verbal orders and instructions
- Guides torch and rod along joint of workpieces to heat to brazing temperature, melt braze alloy, and bond workpieces together
- Examines seam and rebrazes defective joints or broken parts
- Aligns and secures workpieces in fixtures, jigs, or vise, using rule, square, or template
- Turns valves to start flow of gases, lights flame, and adjusts valves to obtain desired color and size of flame
- Connects hoses from torch to regulator valves and cylinders of oxygen and specified fuel gas, acetylene or natural
- Melts and separates brazed joints to remove and straighten damaged or misaligned components, using hand torch or furnace
- Selects torch tip, flux, and brazing alloy from data charts or work order
- Adjusts electric current and timing cycle of resistance welding machine to heat metal to bonding temperature
- May have to assist in moving materials when needed
- Performs other similar or related duties as required
- Regular attendance is always an essential function
