The Occupational Therapist will support students with developmental, motor, perceptual, and sensory needs by developing activities and interventions that enhance learning, increase functional independence, and support successful participation in the classroom environment.
Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct screenings, observations, and evaluations to determine functional, sensory, and motor needs related to school performance.
- Develop and implement individualized OT treatment plans aligned with students’ IEP goals.
- Provide direct OT services (individual and group) and carry out prescribed therapeutic interventions.
- Maintain required treatment documentation, including session notes, progress summaries, attendance, quarterly updates, and annual reports.
- Participate in IEP meetings and recommend goals, services, modifications, and adaptive strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and school staff to support functional participation and independence in the school setting.
- Provide training to staff and parents on fine motor, sensory processing, and adaptive strategies that support classroom learning.
- Maintain equipment and recommend tools or materials needed for student success.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Certification/License: Must have completed an accredited OT program, national board certification, and New York State licensure.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 months of supervised fieldwork; 1–3 years of pediatric or school-based experience preferred.
- Soft Skills: Must demonstrate clear communication, collaboration, flexibility, and a commitment to student growth.
