American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Stepdown position with night shifts and a 50-mile radius requirement.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital acute care setting on a 22-bed Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown)
- Patient population includes heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
- Common titratable drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
- RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips and manage patients on CPAP
- Uses Epic EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts with a cyclic schedule
- Required to work every other weekend
- Requires coverage of one major and one minor holiday during the contract
- Float to ICU required if deemed appropriate by experience
- Provide care in a fast-paced environment with frequent patient admissions and discharges
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and also takes a patient assignment
- Unit is supported by nurse aides or patient care techs with a 1:10 ratio
- Strict fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in patient care areas
- RTO (requested time off) must be declared up front; no additional RTO will be approved after assignment begins
- Unit prefers candidates who demonstrate teamwork, a positive attitude, and strong patient-centered care
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Active IA or compact RN license required at time of application
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in stepdown or progressive care required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (all active at time of consideration)
- Must provide a valid driver's license to confirm residency outside a 50-mile radius
- Candidates may not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) facility in the last year
- Must pass a unit orientation open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90%
- Professional references: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
