The Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive surgical and clinical support in the Pediatric Neurosurgery Department, assisting in both emergent and scheduled neurosurgical procedures. They perform bedside procedures, conduct inpatient and outpatient care, and coordinate surgical cases ensuring effective communication with surgeons and medical teams. The role involves managing schedules, following up on diagnostic results, and collaborating with clinical staff to optimize patient care.
Seeking an NP or PA for locum coverage in the Pediatric Neurosurgery Department. This role involves assisting in the operating room, providing inpatient and outpatient care, and coordinating surgical cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surgical Assistance: Assist in emergent and scheduled procedures, including:
- Craniotomy
- External Ventricular Drain (EVD) placement
- VP shunt revision
- Myelomeningocele repair
- Tumor biopsy/resection
- Wound revision
- Bedside Procedures: Perform CSF sampling from EVD, VP shunt tapping, dressing changes, suture/staple removals, and drain removals.
- Inpatient Care: Conduct daily rounds on inpatient consults, coordinating the care plan with the surgeon and primary team.
- Outpatient Clinic:
- Clinic every Thursday, 9 AM - Noon (may extend longer).
- Independently see patients and coordinate with the surgeon as needed.
- Follow up on imaging, test results, and scheduling.
- Surgical Coordination: Manage and schedule OR cases (both emergent and scheduled), ensuring seamless communication with the surgeon s office.
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Work Hours: Monday Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
- On-Call: No on-call responsibilities.
- Patient Load: Variable.
- Support Staff: Work alongside Clinic Nurse.
Qualifications:
- Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
- Experience in pediatric neurosurgery, neurology, or surgical specialties preferred.
- Proficiency in EPIC EMR (same system for clinic and hospital).
