American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring PICU experience and proficiency with the Epic charting system.
Responsibilities- Work within a 5-bed PICU and a general 15-bed pediatric unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes infants to young adults (0-18) and stable adult overflow cases
- Care for a wide range of patient diagnoses including respiratory illness, chronic diseases, general surgeries, trauma, and critical or intensive pediatric cases
- RN-to-patient ratios are 1:5 for general pediatrics and 1:1–2 for advanced care pediatrics
- EMR system is Epic; proficiency is required
- Omnicell medication dispensing system is used
- Floating may be required to NICU with feeder/grower patients at a 1:3 ratio
- 12-hour variable shift schedule with every other weekend required
- May be placed on low census or on-call status
- Holiday coverage is required for all holidays
- Daily responsibilities include assessment, administering medications, patient/family education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
- Support provided by charge nurse, CNA, nurse clinician/educator, phlebotomy, RT, hospitalist, pharmacy, case management, and social work
- RNs and nurse aides draw their own labs and start their own IVs, with ultrasound available
- Pre-employment testing and vaccination in accordance with hospital policy may be required
- One day facility orientation and two-day unit orientation with preceptor
- Dress code is navy scrubs
- Traveler-friendly environment with a supportive and collaborative culture

- Time off approved only if pre-arranged and pre-approved
- Active SD or compact RN license
- Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience required
- PICU experience required, including ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients
- Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Completion of a board-approved nursing education program
- Physical assessment skills for patients from infancy through adulthood
- Proficient in evaluating symptoms, vital signs, and patient/family education
- Proficient with Epic charting system
- First-time travelers considered only with more than 2 years of experience
- Must live more than 100 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted
