- Work Hours: FT Days, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
- Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.
- Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams per department procedures.
- Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
- Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
- Able to independently perform job functions.
- Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.
- Must maintain minimum FDA/MQSA requirements for continuing education, experience and equipment.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Equipment
- Demonstrates ability to adjust technique to provide the best possible study while maintaining image quality.
- Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction.
- Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.
- Operates all radiographic equipment safely and competently, ensuring equipment is not abused and remains fully operational.
Patient Care
- Obtains complete clinical history, gathers exam data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
- Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate right/left marker use.
- Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Uses critical thinking skills.
- Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
- Assists technologists in all modalities when needed.
- Observes patient condition and evaluates when physician intervention is necessary.
- Verifies two patient identifiers per policy and confirms proper clinician order.
- Ensures privacy and comfort are accommodated.
- Demonstrates competence in appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
- Understands, demonstrates and documents Pre-Procedure Verification and Time-Out process when appropriate.
- Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care when applicable.
- Demonstrates and understands sterile technique when applicable.
- Organizes schedule, time and priorities to meet required timeframes.
- Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
- Practices RBAC (Read Back and Confirm) when taking verbal orders.
Education and Communication
- Clearly explains purpose and nature of exam using AIDET to minimize anxiety and improve cooperation.
- Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved.
- Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
- Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
- Documentation is concise, legible and uses precise terminology.
- Reads email daily and follows through with assignments.
- Completes department and hospital-wide mandatory education without prompting.
Quality Control
- Produces acceptable images with a first-time acceptance rate of 95 percent.
- Ensures equipment is fully operational prior to each use by checking calibration and functionality.
- Completes all studies in RIS; ensures images are oriented, marked, labeled and noted correctly prior to sending to PACS; prints CDs as needed.
- Digitizes comparative studies and completes preliminary sheets when applicable.
- Maintains required documentation for ACR Accreditation standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of ACR/MQSA QC tests including Phantom, Visual Checklist, Repeat Analysis, Compression-pressure, Compression-thickness, Flat field, Calibration, and DICOM printer tests.
Operations
- Restocks linens and supplies and maintains Mammography Department cleanliness and organization.
- Transports, positions and assists patients on and off the procedure table.
- Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered.
- Applies shielding.
- Prepares and maintains patient follow-up data.
- Willingly assists coworkers and shares knowledge when time allows.
- Performs clerical and support tasks to ensure continuity and quality of services.
- Keeps supervisor informed and promptly reports potential problems.
- Maintains productivity equal to coworkers.
- Familiar with Mammography Tracking System.
- Maintains Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
- Familiar with FDA/MQSA EQUIP program.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Education
- Graduate of AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology - Required
- Currently ARRT registered - Required
Required Minimum Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience as a Rad Tech - Required
- Minimum 1 year experience in Mammography - Preferred
