American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a WA or compact RN license and experience in L&D, antepartum, postpartum, and acute MedSurg care.
Responsibilities- Work in a critical access hospital with Labor & Delivery and postpartum patient populations
- Unit has 2 L&D rooms with acute care beds used for postpartum stays longer than 24 hours
- C-sections are performed in the OR with PACU responsible for recovery; OB nurses care for newborns post-delivery
- Typical volume is 50-60 births annually with low high-risk patient volume
- RN staff may have a 1:1 patient ratio, occasionally 1:2, and only one OB nurse per shift
- 12-hour night shifts with schedules typically blocked together and completed 4 weeks at a time
- Weekend shifts typically required every other weekend
- Holiday coverage may be required as needed
- Floating to the Acute MedSurg floor required when no OB patients are present
- Uses Cerner Community Works EMR
- Fetal Link EFM system utilized on unit
- Duties include comprehensive care for antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and neonatal patients
- No nurse aides or surgical techs assigned to the L&D unit
- Charge nurse coverage is provided for the whole hospital, not specifically the L&D unit
- Family Practice OBs are on site during clinic hours and available on call after hours
- No respiratory therapist (RT) in house; basic neonatal respiratory equipment available as needed
- Scrubs must be clean and professional with no specific color required
- Department-specific orientation provided (1 day)
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in L&D, antepartum, postpartum, and acute MedSurg settings
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and C-EFM (intermediate level required, advanced preferred)
- Experience in titrating drips such as insulin and magnesium
- Ability to independently monitor patients on magnesium sulfate therapy
