Domestic Casualty Underwriter (Specialist or Executive level)

Zurich Insurance is currently looking for a Domestic Casualty Underwriter (Specialist or Executive level)  to join our National Accounts Domestic Large Casualty team in our Chicago Office. While this position will be based out of our Chicago office, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

This role will be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist, Domestic Casualty or Executive Underwriter, Domestic Casualty. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• We are seeking a market‑facing underwriter with strong technical expertise and experience working with brokers across the Midwest region.
• This role will focus on Zurich’s domestic large casualty products, managing a renewal book while also driving new business opportunities.
• Our underwriters are externally focused, with objectives centered on profitable growth and delivering superior service to our broker partners and customers.
• The position requires experience with casualty lines of business and offers the opportunity to fully apply and further develop underwriting and marketing skills.
• The successful candidate will underwrite and analyze both new and renewal business in accordance with The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework and within delegated authority levels.

Basic Qualifications - Underwriting Specialist:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  AND
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience with Microsoft Office

 OR

Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  AND
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree
• CPCU
• Advanced knowledge and practice of Primary Casualty lines
• Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
• Ability to effectively assess risk
• Ability to work in a team-based environment
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
