American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg night shift position requiring a NE or compact license plus BLS and NIHSS certification.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital's Med/Surg Neuro unit on the 4th Floor North
- Patient population includes neuro patients, post-neurosurgical, strokes, and Med/Surg overflow including joint replacements, fractures, GI bleeds, and more
- Unit has 25 beds with nurse to patient ratios of 1:5-6
- Equipment includes PCA pumps and tele monitors with tele tech support
- RN will titrate drips including heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine
- Uses Epic EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts scheduled, every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required for 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year
- Floating required to other medical surgical areas or units with Med/Surg patients awaiting beds
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Orientation includes 2 department-specific days and a pass/fail open book skills exam
- Charge nurse is present every shift
- Nurse aides/patient care techs and tele techs support the unit
- Mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and responsiveness are critical for success in this high-volume unit
- Unit serves a culturally diverse patient population
- First-time travelers will be considered if qualified
- Holiday and weekend coverage are required as specified
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility for travel rate eligibility
- Active NE or compact RN license in hand; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required and must be current
- No license or background hits accepted
- Prior Med/Surg neuro or telemetry experience preferred; strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
- Driver's license required for consideration to verify location outside 50-mile radius
- Cannot be currently or recently employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity-affiliated facility
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
