American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with charge experience for a float ICU position in Colorado requiring a CO or compact RN license and strong ICU background.
Responsibilities- Work as a charge nurse in an ICU float pool across multiple hospital sites within a 60-mile zone
- Float among various ICU types, including MICU, SICU, TICU, and CVICU, and may also support PCU/Stepdown and Med-Surg Tele units
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 depending on acuity, with 1:1 for high acuity cases such as CRRT, IABP, or Impella
- Patients include a broad range of general ICU cases and high-acuity critical care needs
- RNs are required to titrate all critical drips, including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulin
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Exposure to respiratory equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow devices
- Work a 12-hour day shift schedule, 7-7, with 6-9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday rotation may be required
- Flexible floating required within the designated travel zone and to affiliated hospitals
- Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience required for first-time travelers
- Serve as charge nurse with responsibility for responding to hospital-wide codes and rapid responses
- May occasionally carry a patient assignment if required, especially on night shifts
- No nurse aides are routinely available; sitter support available for special needs
- Respiratory therapists are designated to ICU but may not always be present, so RNs must assist with basic respiratory care
- Travelers must secure housing that enables floating anywhere within the 60-mile zone
- Orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor and additional online onboarding
- Any color scrubs are permitted
- All time off requests must be submitted before assignment begins
- Previous direct employment (full time, part time, PRN) with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity within the past year is not allowed
- Active CO or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience and prior charge nurse experience required
- First-time travelers must have 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic EMR experience
- Current AHA certifications in BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC required
- Must be comfortable titrating all critical care drips
- Driver’s license required for consideration
- Must live at least 60 miles from the zone's city center
- 2 professional references, including one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
