Senior Accountant Requirements & Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 4–7 years of real estate accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of property-level accounting, CAM, accruals, and financial reporting.
  • Strong consolidation and analytical experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with accounting software (Yardi preferred).
  • Ability to supervise or mentor staff.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.


Senior Accountant Preferred Background & Skills


  • CPA certification highly desirable.
  • Public accounting background.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements for multiple properties.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and reforecasting processes.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.


Senior Accountant Day-to-Day Responsibilities


  • Prepare, review, and ensure accurate reporting of corporate and property-level accounting functions in line with GAAP and IFRS.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including consolidations, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements for a portfolio of real estate properties.
  • Coordinate and prepare CAM and operating expense reconciliations in adherence to lease terms.
  • Maintain general ledger activity for partnership entities and track significant transactions.
  • Support process documentation, budgeting, and reforecasting efforts.
  • Prepare analyses and investor reports; support annual audits.
  • Mentor junior staff and collaborate with asset management on accounting questions and projects.
