American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical Acute Care position in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license and recent hospital experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Medical-Surgical Acute Care unit of an acute care hospital
- Care for general medicine patients with diverse diagnoses
- Unit features 18 beds with a mix of private and one semi-private room
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
- Uses Epic EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift report at 7a and 7p
- Weekend work is required every other weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
- Holiday rotation required as per policy
- Travel RNs are the first to float to other units as needed
- No on-call responsibility
- Care includes the use of Heparin drips (titration required) and oxygen therapy up to 6L NC, with stable BiPAP/CPAP as needed
- Patient telemetry is monitored remotely via the hospital's telemetry department
- RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources if unsuccessful
- Inpatient phlebotomy team and pharmacy staff are available 24/7
- Unit is supported by two patient care techs per shift and a unit clerk with 24-hour coverage
- 24-hour charge RN coverage and house supervisor support are available on the unit
- Hospitalist and intensivist coverage is provided 24/7
- Travel RNs typically receive a 12-hour orientation shift with a preceptor
- Any color scrubs may be worn, provided by the RN (no pediatric prints)
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS, AHA) certification required
- At least 1 year of recent hospital RN experience preferred
- Experience starting IVs and managing Heparin drips
- Charting experience with Epic preferred
- References must include a supervisor from within the last 12 months and a peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
- Nursys verification required for consideration
- All licenses and certifications must be currently active
