Quality Control Manager

Reports To: Director of Operations
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Summary / Objective
The Quality Control Manager oversees all laboratory quality assurance and control functions, ensuring products meet internal standards, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements. This role leads lab operations, testing, documentation, and cross-department collaboration to support continuous improvement and production efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide regular updates to management regarding safety, quality, budget, and equipment performance within the lab.

Develop and maintain product quality standards, testing specifications, and documentation in the quality database.

Oversee testing and analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods to verify physical and chemical properties.

Investigate customer quality issues; coordinate complaint testing and communicate results to relevant departments.

Maintain organized records including the QC database, experimental materials database, and quality logs.

Supervise day-to-day laboratory operations, including scheduling, task assignments, and time approvals for QC technicians.

Ensure all laboratory instruments are properly maintained, calibrated, and assigned to responsible team members.

Collaborate with production and R&D teams to optimize product performance, reduce waste, and improve process efficiency.

Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff; ensure adherence to SOPs and safety protocols.

Participate in regulatory and environmental reporting activities as required.

Contribute to the creation and implementation of standard operating procedures for the QC laboratory.

Ensure accurate technical data entry into manufacturing and quality systems.

Support daily production and operations meetings to address scheduling, inventory, quality, and logistics topics.

Partner with multiple departments (production, purchasing, environmental, safety, sales, etc.) to address quality or compliance issues.

Maintain a safe working environment and ensure proper chemical handling and documentation of Safety Data Sheets.

Verify that equipment calibrations are completed and documented according to schedule.

Prepare Certificates of Analysis and Certificates of Compliance as required.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
Directly supervises all Quality Control laboratory staff. Responsible for training, performance management, scheduling, and workflow coordination in alignment with company policies.
Work Environment
Work involves both laboratory and production floor settings with potential exposure to chemicals, fumes, and mechanical equipment. Noise levels vary from quiet (lab) to loud (production). Appropriate PPE is provided and required.
Computer Skills
Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and related software. Familiarity with data entry systems, LIMS or ERP programs, and standard office applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands
While primarily a standing and walking role, some lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and reaching may be required. Must have good visual acuity and color perception.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
Full-time, exempt position. Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional adjustments for business needs, coverage, or project deadlines.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field required.

Minimum of 8–10 years of relevant laboratory or manufacturing quality experience.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
