The Registered Nurse in Ambulatory Specialty - OBGYN at Novant Health provides comprehensive nursing care and coordination for women’s health across all life stages. This role involves collaborating with clinical teams, performing assessments, administering treatments, and educating patients in outpatient obstetric and gynecologic settings. The position requires clinical expertise, patient advocacy, proficiency in EMR systems, and adherence to healthcare standards to ensure high-quality, empathetic care.
The Registered Nurse (RN)
serves as a leader within the healthcare team at Novant Health, fostering an authentic and personalized relationship with every patient and their chosen support system. The RN collaborates with physicians, certified nurse midwives, sonographers, and other clinical team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health throughout all stages of a woman’s life — from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
This role requires a compassionate professional who demonstrates excellence in patient care, critical thinking, and teamwork. The RN applies evidence-based practice and empathy to support women’s health across both obstetric and gynecologic settings, ensuring each patient receives exceptional, holistic care.
What We're Looking For:Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience in Labour & Delivery, High-Risk Obstetrics, or Gynaecology Surgery preferred.
Candidates with more than one year of experience in these areas are strongly preferred.
Experience in an outpatient OB/GYN or women’s health clinic setting is an asset.
4-Year / Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more — and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years — successful completion of a Board-approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license.
In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
Licensure/Certification:
Current RN licensure in the appropriate state required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required.
Additional certifications such as Fetal Monitoring, Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
Additional Skills/Requirements:
Excellent communication, critical thinking, and clinical assessment skills.
Ability to function independently while working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Strong patient advocacy and interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse patient populations.
Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.
- Provide direct nursing care and coordination for patients during prenatal, antepartum, postpartum, and general women’s health visits.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, patient education, and documentation in accordance with Novant Health standards and regulatory requirements.
- Administer medications and injections, perform phlebotomy, and assist providers with in-office procedures such as Pap smears, colposcopies, biopsies, and minor obstetric interventions.
- Educate patients on prenatal health, contraceptive management, fertility support, menopause care, and overall wellness.
- Collaborate with physicians and sonographers to review diagnostic findings and ensure appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
- Serve as a patient advocate by promoting communication, safety, and privacy throughout the care process.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinic huddles to support best practices and patient experience goals.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment in compliance with OSHA and infection control standards.
