Job Details:
• Work in Neurosurgical/Neuroscience Med/Surgical/step down unit
• Patient ratios of 4-5:1 during days and 5:1 during nights and weekends
• 24 hours of orientation provided
• Work 8 weekend shifts per contract (every other weekend required)
• Minimum 2 years of experience required with IV start skills
• Will accept Med/Surg/Tele or PCU level experience
• Required certifications: BCLS and NIH
• Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at University and Methodist Hospitals
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training and resources provided
• Care for patients aged 15-100+ with neuro trauma, MVA, stroke, seizure, brain and spinal cord injuries
• Handle craniotomies for tumors, laminectomies, shunts for hydrocephalus
• Perform in/out catheters, lines, g-tubes, occasional lumbar punctures, trachs, PCA pumps, wound vacs
• Work with special equipment including cardiac chairs, gait belts, Sara Steady lifts, wound vacs, fall monitors
• Collaborate daily with physical therapy and rehabilitation services
• First time travelers accepted
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Call-ins must be made up during pay period or added to end of contract

The unit performs 2-3 surgeries daily and maintains excellent interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams.
