A Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides specialized care in mental health by conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and collaborating with healthcare teams. The position is a 6-month locum tenens contract with opportunities for extension, offering flexible scheduling and travel benefits for candidates living over 50 miles from the facility.
Pay: $110.00-120.00 per hour

Details:
- Needing one 7 on/7 off provider and one PRN provider
- 7 on/7 off, 7:00p-7:00a
- PRN coverage as needed
- 44-bed ICU
- Level II trauma center
- EMR: EPIC
- Credentialing: 90 days
Requirements:
- Active New Mexico licensure
- Board certification
- AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
- Minimum 1-year Critical Care experience
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
- Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
- Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and NP specialty
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
- Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients
- Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
- Time management skills to manage a patient workload efficiently
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team
Requirements
Education:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
- Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
Licenses & Certifications:
- Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in New Mexico
- National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners AANP )
- Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in New Mexico
- National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Experience:
- While specific requirements may vary, most locum APP positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty
- Locum tenens APP positions are temporary assignments, often lasting weeks or months, to address staffing shortages in hospitals, surgical centers or other healthcare facilities
- These positions offer competitive pay and flexible schedules, allowing APPs to pursue diverse work environments and control their workload
