American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift PCU/stepdown position requiring at least 2 years of experience and a NE or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Position is in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) located on the 4th Floor East Wing
- Adult patient population, with rare peds patients age 15 and older
- Unit has 55 beds with typical diagnoses including CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness
- RN patient ratio is 1:4 for both days and nights
- 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)
- Requires working every other weekend
- Expectation to float to Med/Surg areas as needed
- Uses Epic EMR for all documentation
- Alaris IV pumps and PCA devices for pain management are used
- Mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Supported by CNAs, nurse educators, care managers, social workers, dietitians, PT and OT
- Provide care for acutely ill patients requiring close monitoring and titration of drips such as cardizem and insulin
- Team-oriented unit with strong support from fellow nurses and ancillary staff
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
- Orientation includes a pass/fail skills exam on Friday
- Driver's license used to verify compliance with the 50-mile radius rule
- First time travelers may apply
- Applicants with strong responsiveness and hourly rounding skills will excel
- Weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled
- Active NE or compact state RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or stepdown nursing experience required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Telemetry competency required
- Experience with Epic EMR and Alaris IV pumps preferred
- Candidates must provide a copy of their driver's license for radius verification
- Must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
- Must pass an open-book exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientation to proceed
- Artificial nails are prohibited while providing patient care
