Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for adults on the psychiatric unit
- Perform thorough mental health assessments and document findings clearly and timely
- Administer medications safely and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects
- Implement crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe environment
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (psychiatrists, therapists, social workers) to develop and update care plans
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and coping strategies
- Maintain accurate, timely charting and comply with facility policies and regulatory standards
- Participate in shift handoffs and communicate changes in patient status effectively

Requirements
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license (eligible for Oklahoma licensure or compact RN as applicable)
- Prior experience in adult psychiatric nursing preferred; demonstrated comfort working on an APU
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required — ACLS or psychiatric certifications are a plus
- Comfort and competence with 12-hour night shift schedules
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and crisis-management skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Completion of required facility orientation and psychiatric unit training
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in psychiatric assessment, suicide risk evaluation, and crisis intervention
- Experienced with medication administration and monitoring in behavioral health settings
- Skilled in de-escalation techniques and maintaining a therapeutic milieu
- Good documentation practices and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Ability to prioritize, triage, and manage complex patient needs during night shifts
- Strong interpersonal skills for patient and family education, and interdisciplinary collaboration
