Job Overview
Granite Concrete is seeking a skilled and self-motivated Project Manager to oversee heavy civil construction projects across Montana and Idaho. This role will manage all phases of project delivery — from bidding and preconstruction through contract closeout — ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
Project types may include excavation and embankment, structural concrete, utility installation, roadway and bridge construction, grading, asphalt paving, and aggregate production. The Project Manager will coordinate with superintendents, QC staff, subcontractors, vendors, and agency representatives to maintain compliance and performance standards while driving profitability.
This role is based in Libby, Montana, with regional field support across both public and private sector projects.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Lead heavy civil projects from preconstruction through final closeout.
Develop and implement project-specific documentation, including TCPs, site safety plans, QCPs, and baseline schedules.
Coordinate with superintendents, QC staff, subcontractors, vendors, and agency representatives to ensure projects stay on track.
Monitor daily progress, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with contract requirements.
Quality Control Leadership
Manage QC programs for asphalt, concrete, and aggregate operations across multiple facilities and job sites.
Develop and execute Quality Control Plans (QCPs) in line with FP-14, WFLHD, MDT, MPWSS, and local standards.
Oversee lab and field testing, including soil compaction, aggregate gradation, concrete slump, air content, compressive strength, and asphalt density.
Maintain testing logs, certifications, and reports to ensure proper documentation.
Perform inspections and coordinate approvals for materials, mix designs, formwork, rebar, and subgrade prep.
Lead investigations into quality issues, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Operational Support
Support accurate bid development through takeoffs and vendor coordination.
Ensure crews, equipment, and materials are scheduled efficiently.
Contribute to continuous improvement of internal project management systems and workflows.
Qualifications
Required:
5+ years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects.
Strong knowledge of excavation, utilities, structural concrete, roadway construction, grading, and asphalt paving.
Familiarity with MDT, WFLHD, FP-14, and other agency specifications.
Proficient in reading plans, specs, and schedules.
Experience developing TCPs, safety plans, QCPs, and construction schedules.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Project, Excel, and PDF markup tools (e.g., Bluebeam).
Valid driver's license; willingness to travel to regional project sites.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
WAQTC/TTQP, ACI, TCS, or SWPPP certifications.
Experience managing multiple active projects in rural/mountain regions.
OSHA/MSHA safety training (or ability to obtain quickly).
