American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU Float Pool night shift position requiring an AZ or compact license and strong titration skills.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care float pool covering Med/Surg, Telemetry, and Progressive Care Units (PCU) across two campuses
- Care for geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural, and cardiac patients including post-MI, post-cath, and CABG post-op
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 in PCU and 1:5-6 in Med/Surg Tele
- Float coverage may include inpatient holds in the Emergency Department
- Manage patients requiring titratable drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
- Night shift (12 hours), every other weekend required, first to float when census fluctuates
- Notification of unit assignment is provided two hours prior to shift start via text
- Patient monitoring includes telemetry, with monitor techs supporting PCU and Med/Surg Tele; RNs must interpret strips
- EMR system is Cerner; prior Cerner experience preferred
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Travelers are included in the staff holiday rotation and must wear professional solid color scrubs; navy scrubs required beginning in October
- Orientation includes a general hospital session and additional unit-specific orientation shifts in Med/Tele and PCU
- Support staff includes nurse aides and a designated charge nurse on each unit
- RNs must pass sterile technique tests for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day
- Radius rule requires permanent residence at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates must not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years total RN experience and at least 1 year of recent PCU experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Competence with titrating and managing hemodynamic drips is required
- Ability to interpret telemetry strips independently
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Copy of valid driver’s license required for consideration
