American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position in Michigan requiring ICU and PCU experience, with ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a mixed ICU/PCU hospital setting caring for both medical ICU and progressive care patients
- Patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for high acuity, 2:1 for ventilated patients, 3:1 to 4:1 for mixed acuity, and 5-6:1 when floating to Med Surg units
- Special procedures performed include CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line, central and trach tube placements, and chest tube placement
- Equipment used includes ventilators, cooling machines, Bair Huggers, CRRT machines, and devices for massive transfusions
- Day shifts available with 12-hour shifts (7:00-19:30)
- Must work every other weekend
- Floating required to other ICU and Med Surg units as needed
- Must be available for the first 8 days of the assignment and the full week of orientation
- Responsible for managing a mixed acuity patient population in the ICU and progressive care environments
- Will need to administer and titrate critical medications and drips per unit protocols
- Work collaboratively with ICU physicians and other team members to determine patient acuity and assignment
- Orientation and training provided during the first week; assignment start requires availability for all orientation days
- First-time travelers are welcome for consideration
- Active MI RN license in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale
- Minimum 1 year of ICU RN experience required
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and emergency response
- Endocrine/metabolic care experience including IV insulin protocols
- IV therapy experience with arterial lines, blood products, central line care, PICC lines, and starting IVs
- Proficiency with continuous IV sedation, titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips, and emergency medications
- Neurological experience with acute stroke/CVA management
- Respiratory management skills including BiPAP, CPAP, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and suctioning
